The only way to know your HIV status for sure is to get tested regularly! If you know your status, you will be better able to protect yourself and the people you have sex with.
An HIV test requires a blood sample which can be taken in two different ways: either from the crook of your arm or from the tip of your finger. A sample taken from the crook of your arm is sent to a laboratory for analysis and you will get the result after about a week. A sample taken from the tip of the finger is placed on a test unit. This is called a rapid result test and you get the result after 10-15 minutes.
