An HIV test requires a blood sample which can be taken in two different ways: either from the crook of your arm or from the tip of your finger. A sample taken from the crook of your arm is sent to a laboratory for analysis and you will get the result after about a week. A sample taken from the tip of the finger is placed on a test unit. This is called a rapid result test and you get the result after 10-15 minutes.
HIV testing is free and can be done anonymously. However, if it turns out that you have HIV, you have to provide your identity.
